BREAKING THE ICE
A COMMON HISTORY TO BUILD
In collaboration with Beit HaGefen, multicultural center in Haifa
Another project that has been successfully renewed every year for the past eight years, Breaking The Ice brings together twelve Arab and Jewish Israeli students between the ages of 23 and 30 from the University of Haifa. Recruitment and supervision of the group are the responsibility of Ulfat Haider and Asaf Ron, director of BeitHaGefen. The process is spread over one year: recruitment and selection from January to March. Young people with good physical fitness, gender and Jewish/Arab parity and good group interaction skills are required.
From April to June, preparation in Israel, a few evenings and four weekends in nature. A reunion of participants and their families is organized.
In Switzerland, they embark together on an alpine trek during which they walk six hours a day and sleep in tents, in all weathers, guided by a mid-mountain guide. Every day, time is set aside for dialogue. On the plains, they are lodged by young people of their own age.
The return to Israel is an opportunity to meet again, to exchange about their experience, to reunite their families and to promote the project among the students of the University of Haifa.
